How to migrate Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 - [Part 1]

How to migrate Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 - Part 1For those who are not aware yet, the new Joomla 2.5 was released on January 24, 2012 and as consequence the ticking clock for the unstoppable death of Joomla 1.5 has begun.

Even that I can assure that until today you can even find Joomla 1.0 websites around the internet, my recommendation is that you stop developing on Joomla 1.5.

If you can migrate your website to Joomla 2.5 without too much trouble, I can assure you that migrating will be the best decision you can make, because believe me my friends, Joomla 2.5 has several advantages that you won’t find inside Joomla 1.5.

Now if you don’t have any idea how to migrate Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5, don’t worry that’s why I have created this post.

Please have in mind that what I am going to share with you are general steps and there are going to be several factors that will affect your Joomla Migration Process like:

  1. Your hosting company and its server settings.
  2. The Extensions and Templates you are using.
  3. The Joomla Version you are migrating.
  4. The browser you are using and if you have its JavaScript capabilities disabled.

What I am going to recommend you to do, so you can reduce the amount of problems, will be the following:

  1. First - Check the JUpgrade Requirements. You will need to make sure that your server supports Joomla 2.5. Learn about Joomla 2.5 Requirements.
  2. Second - Check that all your Joomla Extensions are compatible with Joomla 2.5. You can visit the Joomla Extensions Website to find the latest version from your Extensions. - Regarding your template, you might need to contact your developer.
  3. Third - Make sure you have Joomla 1.5.25 installed or that you have the latest Joomla 1.5 version
  4. Fourth – Install the latest version of your browser and enable its JavaScript Capabilities. I will recommend you Install Mozilla Firefox

General Migrating Process from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5

  1. After you have checked all that, the first thing you will need to do is to backup Joomla.
  2. Then, you will need to download JUpgrade and install it inside your Joomla 1.5 website
